PEDIATRIC SAFETY POLICIES

For the safety and well-being of your child, we ask that you follow these precautions: Children should not visit in other patient rooms. All children under the age of three will be placed in a crib unless parents stay at all times and assume responsibility for their safety. If the youngster is in a crib, please make sure that the side rails are left in the high position at all times. Plastic crib tops must be down on children 6 months of age and older except when child is being attended. Children in cribs must sleep in cribs, not on a bed or cot with a parent. If your child is an infant, place year baby on his or her back to sleep. Placing your baby on his/her stomach or side increases the risk of SIDS. Do not allow your infant to have a pillow as this may increase the risk of suffocation. Please keep all pillows, heavy blankets, or comforters out of the crib. Friction toys or small objects should not be given to a young child who is in an oxygen tent. Toys should not have small parts that can be swallowed or put into nose or ears; also they should not have sharp edges or parts that can pinch the skin or small hands. Toys should be washable. Stuffed animals are allowed if they are a favorite toy. When feeding, do not prop bottles or leave breakable bottles containing fluids inside the crib. Your child may be on a special diet. Please check with the nurse before bringing any food. High chairs, plates, bowls, cups, and silverware are all available for your child's mealtime just let us know what you need. If your child is not allowed to eat any food, please do not eat in front of them. Brothers, sisters, or friends who have been exposed to contagious diseases should not be brought in to visit pediatric patients. All plants should be placed up and out of the reach of small children.
