PATIENT PRIVACY NOTICE

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) established regulations to protect the privacy and security of individual health information.

DeKalb Memorial Hospital complied with the Privacy Regulations starting April 14, 2003.

The security and privacy provisions aim to safeguard the confidentiality of private care. It is important to understand that the security standards and the privacy standards are two different things. The security standards deal with measures organizations need to take to keep their information safe. The privacy standards address who has access to personal health information and the rights of individuals to keep information about themselves from being disclosed or used. This rule protects information that is written, spoken or in electronic form.

Refer to the hospital's Notice of Privacy Practices if you have further questions.
