DeKalb Memorial Hospital's Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program offers a multifaceted program helping patients return to an optimal level of health and activity in a safe environment and timely manner.
The Cardiac Rehab Program is designed for individual's recovering from a cardiac crisis, such as a heart attack, open-heart surgery, or those suffering from coronary artery disease and stable angina.
The Pulmonary Rehab Program focuses patient care programs toward those who suffer from: Emphysema, Asthma or other chronic lung diseases. Pulmonary Rehabilitation can help reduce hospitalizations and lessen respiratory symptoms.
Changes in your lifestyle are of top priority, and we will focus on an individual needs with a strong emphasis on exercise, diet, stress reduction and behavioral modification. Personnel specially trained in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation staff the department. We will advise you on medication, diet, depression and stress management and our staff will establish an exercise plan to meet your individual needs.
A registered dietitian also offers classes on nutrition and is available for individual counseling.
Family plays a big part in the recovery of a cardiopulmonary patient. With this in mind, we involve family members during every step of the rehabilitation process.

The DeKalb Memorial Hospital Cardiopulmonary Department has been awarded a certification from American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). The AACVPR is a national, multi-disciplinary association dedicated to the improvement of clinical practice, promotion of scientific inquiry, and advancement of education for the benefit of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation professionals and the patients they serve.
